National Pavement Expo 2019

March 5, 2019 By Titan Labs Leave a Comment

Photo of our booth at the National Pavement Expo 2019, held in Nashville, the USA's Music City.
Thanks for stopping by our booth at NPE last week!

We had an excellent turnout to our booth at the National Pavement Expo 2019. It was in Nashville again this year. The show moves around every other year, but we really prefer Nashville since so many people come by our booth.

For all of those that came by, THANK YOU! For all those that haven’t been, We can recommend this show highly. Lots of great restaurants, honky tonks, and history to enjoy here, on top of an excellent trade show created just for pavers, sealers, and anyone else working with pavement.

We hope to see you next year! (also in Nashville – January 29th) Come on down to see for yourself how Oil-Flo can save you time and money! Stop in and say hi to Jamie and Alan.

Is Water Hard or Soft in My Area?

January 11, 2019 By Titan Labs Leave a Comment

One of the subjects that comes up a lot around here is Hard Water. The most common question is: How do I know if my water is hard or soft?

The answer is: Unless you live in Boston, Seattle, Hawaii, or Alabama, you most likely have hard water. See, in the good ‘ol USA, water hardness is measured in Grains per Gallon (gpg) as defined as 1 grain (64.8 mg) of calcium carbonate per U.S. gallon (3.79 liters) of water, or 17.118 ppm. Check with your local water provider to find out if you have hard water in your region. They usually do an annual report and you can get a copy of it, if you didn’t already get one in the mail.

Characteristics of Hard Water

Hard water resists foaming, so usually cleaning compound manufacturers add heaps of a foaming agent called Sodium Laureth Sulfate. It makes a lot of bubbles, but be forewarned: it combines with the calcium to create deposits that stains anything it touches: windows, tiles, spas, showers, etc. These deposits, called “scale,” are composed mainly of calcium carbonate, magnesium hydroxide, and calcium sulfate. The problem gets even worse when you add detergents (aka surfactants), as the positive calcium ions (present in hard water) mix with the detergent to create a film of soap scum instead of lather. Now add the residue from the sodium laureth sulfate and it makes a kind of ‘cement’ that’s really hard to remove.

Can I Use Citri-Flo on Carpets?

December 20, 2018 By Titan Labs Leave a Comment

Each year, a few of our carpet cleaning distributors invite us to their Customer Appreciation Days. CADs. These things are great – you get to set up in a booth and talk to all of their regular customers, have some free food and a general all-around good time. One of them even brings in several kegs of beer!  And of course, I’ve got Citri-Flo to demo all day.

It’s almost all upside, but don’t forget that when you’re manning a booth anywhere, you’ll be repeating yourself all day.  It’s just the nature of a booth.  This gets compounded by the fact that you’re also hanging out with these folks during lunch, the prize giveaways, etc. So you get asked the same questions a lot.
